What won the race: Taking the point from race-long leader Dale McDowell on lap 28, Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., paced the final 13 circuits at Volunteer Speedway, winning Tuesday's $10,000 Spring Thaw Warmup. Madden earned his second victory of the young season in the inaugural XR Workin' Man Series event.
Quotable: “For the first half of the race we was a little bit free and Dale was a little bit better than we was right there on the takeoff,” Madden said. “My car finally neutralized out and I was able to maneuver all over the place. We had a great race car tonight, we’re definitely looking forward to the weekend, I think we really got a 100-lap piece.”
Key notes: McDowell, of Chickamauga, Ga., led the first 27 laps from the pole and finished 1.108 seconds back, notching his second consecutive runner-up at Volunteer after finishing second Thursday to Kyle Larson. ... Kyle Bronson started and finished third in the caution-free event. ... Tuesday’s feature, the XR Workin' Man Series inaugural race, was completed without incident and lasted 10 minutes, with 16 drivers completing 40 laps. ... The race marked the second consecutive green-to-checkered Super Late Model show at Volunteer Speedway, following Thursday's Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge, a 50-lapper main event completed in 13 minutes. ... Tuesday's Spring Thaw Warmup precedes this weekend's XR Super Series season opening doubleheader at Volunteer, where Super Late Models will compete in split-field $5,000-to-win events Friday before Saturday’s record-high $100,000-to-win Spring Thaw 100 feature.
On the move: Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., started 11th and finished ninth.
