Chip Brindle reached victory lane at Tri-County Racetrack.
What won the race: After challenging race-long leader Brandon Williams for several laps, Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga., took the lead on lap 36 with an inside move into turn one and led the final five circuits at Tri-County Racetrack to capture Friday's $2,500 Vol-Heel Spring Shootout. Brindle earned his first career American All-Star Series victory.
Quotable: “We’ve been in this spot for three weeks in a row and finally we capitalized at this place,” Brindle said. “It took forever to get it cleaned up, but once it cleaned up, I was trying to run him (Williams) as clean as I could without running over him, but I finally got enough grip."
Key notes: Joining the three-car battle for the lead, Booger Brooks passed Williams on lap 37 and finished second, 0.701 of a second back. ... Seventh-starting Jason Deal passed Williams on the final lap and finished third. ... Williams, of Crossville, Tenn., led the first 35 laps from the pole before fading to finish fourth. ... Trevor Sise advanced seven positions and finished seventh. ... Joe Denby gained four spots and finished ninth. ... Logan Walls of Junction City, Ky., was unhurt after flipping down the backstretch on the first lap of Friday's feature, necessitating a red flag for cleanup. Walls' right-front tire climbed the guardrail, sending his car airborne before striking the blunt-end pit exit wall, causing his car to flip into a nearby light pole and knocking it down. Track officials spent over an hour recovering Walls' badly damaged car from the deep brush along with recovering the leveled light pole. ... With the 70-minute red flag, Friday's Vol-Heel Spring Shootout feature was slowed by three additional incidents and lasted more than 90 minutes with 11 competitors completing all laps.
On the move: Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., started ninth and finished second.
