Ethan Dotson and his teammates celebrate in Harrisburg, Ark.
What won the race: Regaining the lead when Kyle Beard suffered a flat tire on lap 13, division rookie Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., led the final 27 laps at Old No. 1 Speedway, winning Friday's $5,000 Cow Patty feature. Dotson, a modified standout, led all but two laps in winning his first career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series start.
Quotable: “Oh man, I’m lost for words,” Dotson said. “I’m just super, super thankful for Chris Bragg and Tyler Bragg for taking a shot on me, a modified guy and letting me drive a Late Model, I mean just super awesome and unheard of. I couldn’t hold it on the bottom down here (in turn one) and I think the 00 lapped car had a mirror, he was following everywhere I was going. Definitely a lot of luck came into it, but shoot, that’s 90 percent of racing.”
Key notes: Beard, of Trumann, Ark., made a bold third-to-first move when Dotson slowed in heavy lapped traffic, leading laps 12 and 13 before a flat tire knocked him from contention. ... Polesitter Timothy Culp pressured Dotson heavily for the final 10 laps before finishing 1.719 seconds back. ... Hunter Rasdon advanced three positions and finished third. ... Morgan Bagley gained four spots and finished fourth. ... Billy Moyer and Neil Baggett advanced six spots apiece in finishing fifth and eighth. ... Fourth-running Billy Moyer Jr. had an early flat tire and ended up 12th. ... Reigning tour champ Brian Rickman drew the race's final caution with a flat tire on lap 20. ... Friday's Cow Patty feature was slowed twice and lasted 24 minutes with 18 drivers completing 40 laps.
On the move: Jamie Burford of Keatchie, La., started 16th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Dotson’s Chris Bragg Racing Longhorn by Loenbro Chassis carries sponsorship from Finish Line Outdoors, Cliff’s Goodyear Auto Service and Bilstein Shocks, with a special thanks to Tyler Bragg, Jeremiah and Twinkie for their help.
