What won the race: Firing off from the outside front row, Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., led all 30 laps at Red Hill Raceway, winning Sunday's $5,000 Red Hill Rumble feature. Sheppard notched his sixth career MARS Late Model Championship Series victory, his first of the season and his first aboard a Sheppard Riggs Racing Longhorn Chassis.
Quotable: “Yeah it feels awesome to finally get this first win out of the way man, me and the guys have been working really hard,” Sheppard said. “It’s been a lot of fun this year so far, it’s been tough and there’s been a lot of ups and downs, but we’re getting rolling here and we’ve been really good the past couple of weeks, so it feels really good to get the first win out of the way. Hopefully we got some more to come, we’re finally getting some consistency.”
Key notes: Sheppard has secured three consecutive top-two finishes with the MARS Series after settling for second the first two nights at Brownstown Bullring and Fairbury. ... Fourth-starting Tanner English moved into the runner-up position on the lap-11 restart, but had nothing for Sheppard, finishing 3.692 seconds back. ... Drake Troutman started and finished third. ... Ryan Unzicker moved into fourth on lap 13 and finished there. ... Kent Robinson and Blaze Burwell each advanced two positions, finishing sixth and seventh. ... Bob Gardner gained five spots and finished 10th, the last car on the lead lap. ... Frank Heckenast Jr. recovered after slowing to draw the race's first caution on lap one, finishing 11th. ... Polesitter Kyle Hammer failed to lead a lap and slowed while running sixth, ending his night on lap 25. ... Sunday's feature, the finale of a season-opening weekend tripleheader for the MARS Late Model Championship Series, was slowed by two incidents and lasted 17 minutes, with 10 drivers completing the entire distance.
On the move: Tommy Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin, Ill., started 16th and finished ninth.
