Brandon Sheppard celebrates Thursday's $5,000 semifeature victory at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
What won the race: Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., used an inside move to take the lead out of turn four and led the final three laps to win Thursday's first World of Outlaws Case Late Model semifeature at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, collecting $5,000. Race-long leader Jake Timm briefly regained the lead before tangling with a lapped car and spinning, drawing the race's final caution on lap 25 after nosing into the turn-three wall. Sheppard secured his second victory in a row in his Longhorn Chassis after winning Sunday's MARS feature at Red Hill Raceway.
Quotable: “I was trying to avoid it (Jake Timm’s spin) at that point, that (right rear damage) was from Jake there, I got into him a little bit when he was spinning across there,” Sheppard said. “I hate to see that for him, he was doing a heck of a job, you know I was definitely putting the pressure on him, so he knew he had to get through them lapped cars and that one lapped car didn’t give him no room there and that’s unfortunate for him.”
Key notes: Timm, of Winona, Minn., finished 16th after leading the first 24 laps from the pole. ... Stormy Scott moved into the runner-up position on the lap-25 restart, finishing 0.484 of a second back. ... Tenth-starting Shannon Babb finished third. ... Dustin Sorensen ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish seventh aboard the Jimmy Mars-owned MB Customs Chassis. ... WoO regular Ryan Gustin drew the race's second caution when he made contact with Frank Heckenast Jr. and spun on lap two, collecting A.J. Diemel; Logan Martin also spun to start the incident, but avoided contact. Gustin and Diemel were unable to continue, finishing 20th and 21st. ... Thursday's first World of Outlaws semifeature was slowed by four incidents and lasted 20 minutes, with 10 drivers completing all 26 laps. ... The Outlaws contest another pair of 25-lap, $5,000-to-win semifeatures on Friday at Mississippi Thunder, with both nights setting the stage for Saturday's 75-lap, $50,000-to-win Dairyland Showdown finale.
On the move: Logan Martin of West Plains, Mo., started 18th and finished eighth.
