Prerace notes
It's another picture-perfect evening in Wheatland, Mo. — a high of 79 and low of 63 with no rain in sight — as night two of Show-Me 100 weekend helps set the stage for Saturday's 100-lap, $50,000-to-win crown jewel main event. ... After racing to overall fast-time honors, Jeff Herzog of Festus, Mo., breezed to victory in the first heat over reigning Show-Me winner Chris Ferguson, putting the state of Missouri on the pole for a second straight night (Urbana's Dillon McCowan started from the pole Thursday). "Wish this was tomorrow night. That'd be sweet. I just have to thank the crew and everybody. ... We'll see if we can keep it up here," Herzog told FloRacing pit reporter Ben Shelton following the heat win. ... Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga. won the second heat: "This place is tricky. ... It feels no matter what I do, I don't feel better. We're a little tight right now." ... Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., rebounded from Thursday's fuel pump and oil line issues to win the third heat. ... Thursday's winner Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., took advantange of Neil Baggett's one-row deduction for jumping the start to capture the fourth heat. ... Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., marched from the third-starting position to take the fifth heat. "We need a little more side-bite, but that's probably the best we've been all week," McCreadie said afterward. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. of Martinsville, Ind., broke the motor during his third-place run in the fifth heat, but, while he qualified for the main event, he'll have to start at the tail in a backup car. ... Dillon McCowan of Urbana, Mo., kept the good times going, winning the sixth and final heat race to start sixth in the main event a night after finishing sixth from the pole. "I'd definitely like to be on the podium," he said. "I know they brought the top-five to the frontstretch (Thursday). ... I want to be on the frontstretch tonight."
