Justin Zeitner emerged victorious in Friday's 46th annual Yankee Dirt Classic.
What won the race: Pole-starting Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa, outlasted several restarts to lead all 50 laps and win Friday's $5,000 46th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic at 300 Raceway. Zeitner topped the event co-sanctioned event to earn his eighth overall victory of the season and the 13th of his career in Malvern Bank Series competition; it's his fifth career triumph with the Hoker Trucking Series.
Quotable: “Yeah it was really good, I had a really good race car underneath me,” Zeitner said. “That makes my job easier in the seat, for sure. This is the second time (here), I won a prelim race to this night two or three years ago. First time winning the Yankee (Dirt Track Classic), for sure.”
Key notes: Second-starting Tad Pospisil regained the runner-up spot on a lap-42 restart and finished 1.125 seconds back. ... Seventh-starting Andy Eckrich took third before the sixth caution on lap 44 and completed the podium. ... Eighth-starting Jesse Sobbing used the lap-45 restart to finish fourth. ... Ninth-starting Dylan Sillman ran as high as fourth with 15 laps left before slipping to finish fifth. ... Charlie McKenna and Andrew Kosiski each improved 12 positions, finishing seventh and ninth. ... Jeff Aikey gained seven spots and finished eighth. ... Kyle Berck ran as high as second with 12 laps remaining before tagging the field during the lap-44 caution and rebounding to finish 13th, the last driver running at the finish. ... Defending Yankee Dirt Classic winner Justin Kay was running sixth when he retired on lap 36. ... Jason Rauen worked his way to the runner-up spot with 10 laps left before pulling off on lap 33. ... Friday's 50-lap feature was slowed by seven cautions and lasted 34 minutes, with 12 drivers completing the entire distance.
