Zack Dohm and his team celebrate his $10,000 Beckley victory.
What won the race: Eighth-starting Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., used a turn-three slider to overtake race-long leader Zach Sise on lap 30 and paced the final 41 circuits to win Saturday's $10,000 American All-Star Series presented by PPM stop at Beckley Motor Speedway. After leading the first 29 laps from the pole, Sise settled for a distant runner-up finish, 8.480 seconds back.
Quotable: “That’s pretty amazing in a Crate car, ya know, we all got the same motors and stuff,” Dohm said. “I think I just found that leaving turn two was rubbered. I mean, I don’t know if it was rubbered-up, but it was a lot more grip there, kinda like you had to feather the gas anywhere else, but if I drove in up there, I could run hard and get in the throttle hard. I just figured my best bet would be to catch them down the backstretch and slide them into (turn) three.”
Key notes: After winning July's $3,000 All-Star stop at Beckley, fourth-starting Josh Dietz finished third and moves into the series points lead. ... Chip Brindle improved three positions and finished sixth. ... Jordan Hedger gained eight spots and finished eighth. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by two incidents, the first being a 10-minute red flag for cleanup following a multicar incident involving third-running Jacob Brown, fourth-running Gabe Umberger and fifth-running Henry Hornsby III; all three drivers were unable to continue. ... Tyler Bare slowed to draw the race's final yellow on lap 41 before pulling off. ... Saturday's 70-lap feature lasted 28 minutes with 11 drivers completing the entire distance and 14 running at the finish.
On the move: Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., started 18th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Dohm’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsored by Dohm Cycles, Tim Short Auto Group, Way Floor Covering, Octane Race Products, Dohm Farm, Daggett Rentals and Mountain Top RV Park.
