What won the race: Pole-starting John Ruggiero Jr. of Lincolnton, N.C., scored a convincing flag-to-flag victory in Sunday's 75-lap Big One at Cochran Motor Speedway. Ruggiero fended off late challenges from Carson Ferguson and Mark Whitener to collect the $20,000 payday in unsanctioned 602 Crate Late Model competition.
Key notes: Two-time and reigning Schaeffer's Spring Nationals champion Carson Ferguson moved into the runner-up position on lap 34 and trailed Ruggiero the rest of the way. He drew close in the final circuits, finishing 0.293 of a second back. ... Sixth-starting Whitener completed the podium. ... Cody Overton, the winner of 2021's $10,000 Battlefield Blowout at Cochran, advanced from seventh to run as high as second before slipping backward to finish fifth. ... Ricky McClain improved 10 positions and finished sixth. ... Matt Dooley gained seven spots and finished seventh. ... Tyler Sanders advanced nine positions and finished eighth. ... Second-starting Cameron Tribble faded to finish 11th. ... Allen Styck ran as high as fourth before slipping to 13th-place finish. ...
