What won the race: Pole-starting Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa, led all 22 laps and fended off late-race challenges to win Saturday's $4,000 Bob Maschmann Memorial at Knoxville Raceway. Zeitner collected his 11th overall victory of the season across both the Hoker Trucking and Malvern Bank sister series; it's his 15th career Malvern Bank win and his sixth career Hoker Trucking triumph.
Quotable: “We were a little free there, but you have to be here,” Zeitner said. “I could see (my lead) on the jumbotron, I just knew I needed to not give up that bottom (line) and I’d probably be alright and just not slide out across the racetrack; I did once and I knew I’d about been had. So, I just made sure I hit my marks after that and never gave that bottom up.”
Key notes: Andy Eckrich battled with eighth-starting Chad Holladay in the closing laps, prevailing to claim the runner-up spot and finishing 0.428 of a second behind Zeitner. ... After appearing to finish third, Hoker Trucking Series points leader Holladay, of Muscatine, Iowa, was disqualified in postrace technical inspection. ... Malvern Bank Series points leader and two-time Knoxville invitational winner, Tad Pospisil was credited with finishing third following Holladay's disqualification. ... Derrick Stewart and Kyle Berck each improved four positions, finishing fifth and seventh. ... J.C. Wyman gained four spots and finished ninth. ... Zach Zeitner advanced five positions and completed the top 10. ... Seventh-starting Dave Eckrich drew the race's first caution with a flat left-rear on the opening circuit; Eckrich changed the flat but settled for 17th, the first car off the lead lap. ... Curtis Glover was unable to continue after slamming the turn one wall on lap 11 and drawing the race's final caution. ... Saturday's invitational lasted 16 minutes, with 17 drivers completing 22 laps. … The event honors Bob Maschmann of Malcolm, Iowa, an avid Dirt Late Model racing fan and participant, who often assisted Don Hoffman and Darrel DeFrance in the pits; Maschmann owned his own trucking company for 44 years, hauling grain and livestock before dying on Feb. 20, 2019, at the age of 66.
On the move: Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, started 14th and finished sixth.
