What won the race: Sliding underneath mid-race leader Bryan Bernheisel at turn-four exit on lap 18, 13th-starting Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., paced the final 13 circuits to win Sunday's $5,000 Camp Benefit Race at Georgetown Speedway. Hardy earned his first career Super Late Model victory at the Delaware half-mile after hometown driver Ross Robinson pitted from the lead under caution on lap eight; Robinson rebounded to finish second, 2.619 seconds back.
Quotable: “That’s one thing about this race team, we just don’t give up,” Hardy said. “We worked on this thing all night, I just can’t believe it. I didn’t think we were gonna win this race by any means, but as soon as I pulled out on the track, I’m like ‘I think I got something I can race here’. It sucks that Ross (Robinson) broke, I hate to see that. He was gonna go on and probably win this thing and he deserved that.”
Key notes: Ross Robinson needed work under the hood of his machine before returning to the track in 14th and marching to finish runner-up at his home track. ... The fourth-starting Bernheisel, of Jonestown, Pa., led laps 9-17 before giving way to Hardy and Robinson, settling for third. ... Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway track champion Rick Eckert started and finished fifth. ... Amanda Robinson ran as high as fifth in the early laps before slipping to sixth. ... The race's first caution flew on the opening lap when pole-starting Matt Glanden spun in turn three, collecting Trevor Collins; Collins rebounded to finish seventh while Glanden completed 23 laps before pulling off. ... Twelfth-starting DeShawn Gingerich overcame a lap-eight spin — the cause of the second and final yellow flag — to finish eighth. ... After having trouble in his heat, Trever Feathers was running inside the top-10 when he retired on lap 16. ... Sunday's rain-postponed feature lasted 17 minutes, with eight competitors completing 30 laps and nine running at the finish. ... Nick Davis scratched from the main event lineup.
On the move: Race winner Kyle Hardy started 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Hardy’s Sommey Lacey-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Penn Ave Construction, Oliver Electric, Superior Tank, Pinkerton’s Service Center, Reliable Concrete and Schaeffer’s Racing Oil.
