Ethan Dotson captured the Red Farmer Tribute finale at Talladega.
What won the race: Staving off a late-race challenge from Cory Hedgecock, second-starting Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., led all 40 laps to win Saturday's $9,700 third annual Red Farmer Tribute at Talladega Short Track. Making his second start for Coltman Farms Racing, Dotson earned his first career Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series victory and his third overall triumph of the season.
Quotable: “Man, it’s so easy whenever these race cars are good,” Dotson said. “I can’t thank Tommy Greco for coming with me and last night I kinda questioned him and then tonight I told him ‘just do whatever you want to do to this race car’ and he made it perfect, it drove like a dream. I was honestly unsure about coming (to race at Talladega) because everything (with Coltman Farms Racing) was just kinda thrown together and I wanted to go test, or something. I didn’t expect this, but we spent a lot of time at the shop to make sure the car was perfect.”
Key notes: The third-starting Hedgecock, of Loudon, Tenn., settled for the runner-up spot, a scant 0.231 of a second back. ... After winning Friday's $5,038 opener, fifth-starting Ashton Winger rounded-out the podium. ... Eighth-starting Josh Putnam moved into fourth on lap 33 and has assumed the series points lead. ... Pole-starting Jason Hiett ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish fifth. ... Michael Page and Kenny Collins each improved four positions, finishing sixth and eighth. ... Trey Mills gained five spots and completed the top 10. ... Payton Freeman spun from fifth to draw the race's fourth and final caution on lap 19 before calling it a night. ... Prior to Freeman's spin, Sam Seawright slowed from sixth and brought out the race's third yellow. ... Will Roland slowed with a flat right-rear to cause the first stoppage on lap 17; Roland completed just two more laps after changing the flat before pulling off. ... Saturday's 28-minute main event saw 15 competitors complete 40 laps with 19 running at the finish.
On the move: Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., started 23rd and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Dotson’s Brett Coltman-owned Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Coltman Farms Racing, Autism Awareness, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett, MPM Marketing, SRI Performance, Swift Springs, Bilstein Shocks and Collins Signs.
