What won the race: Inheriting the lead when early pacesetter Justin Zeitner slowed on lap nine, fourth-starting Corey Zeitner of Bellevue, Neb., paced the final 21 circuits to win Saturday's $4,000 Pumpkin Patch at Adams County Speedway. Zeitner scored his first Malvern Bank Series feature victory of the season and the ninth of his career.
Quotable: “Sometimes (it’s) better to be lucky than good,” Zeitner said. “This car has been good the past month, since May, the last time we won, it was really good and then we just fell off. We were struggling and struggling and struggling, (I) was ready to quit. (We) finally found what was wrong and it’s been pretty good; finally we got something to show for.”
Key notes: The third-starting Justin Zeitner led laps 5-9 before slowing and pulling off. Zeitner used a questionable turn-one slider to take the lead from pole-starting Chris Spieker on lap five; Zeitner slid directly in front of Spieker's path and left him nowhere to go, leaving Spieker to slam into the back of Zeitner and spin into the infield. Spieker, who led the first four laps from the pole, refired his car and slowed on the backstretch to draw the race's first caution; he resumed and spun to draw the race's second and final yellow on lap 23 before finishing 13th. ... Fifth-starting Bill Leighton Jr. moved into the runner-up spot on lap 11 and trailed Corey Zeitner the rest of the way, finishing 1.444 seconds back. ... Eighth-starting Tad Pospisil finished third, clinching his fourth career Malvern Bank Series championship (2017, '20 and '21). ... Kyle Berck slipped as low as ninth on lap eight before rebounding to complete the top five finishers. ... Josh Leonard improved five positions and finished sixth. ... Derrick Stewart gained three spots and finished seventh. ... Saturday's 15-minute feature had 17 competitors running at the finish.
On the move: Daniel Hilsabeck of Earlham, Iowa, started 14th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Zeitner's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Zeitner & Sons Refrigerated Transport, Tates Chick Farm, Dirt Shirts USA, Monster Graphix and Malvern Bank.
