Cory Hedgecock collected a $10,000 payday at Lake Cumberland.
What won the race: Overcoming two restarts in the final five circuits, pole-starting Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led all 60 laps to win Saturday's $10,000 Fall Classic at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Hedgecock notched his fourth American All-Star Series presented by PPM tour victory of the season and bagged the richest-paying Crate Late Model race in track and state history.
Quotable: “Man, this is the first time we’ve been here and everything, came up here to support Brandon (Hardgrove),” Hedgecock said. “We’re happy we’re here and we got ‘er done for $10,000, so we’ll hope we pass tech tomorrow and tonight; other than that, it was a good racetrack. (I) hope it was a good race, it rubbered, but honestly you could still maneuver and still pass, so it wasn’t just a flat-blown train race.”
Key notes: Third-starting Logan Roberson trailed Hedgecock for the entire distance, finishing 1.610 seconds back. ... Zach Sise challenged Roberson for the runner-up spot on a lap-33 restart attempt before a caution negated his pass; Sise settled for third. ... Dustin Linville finished fourth after taking the spot on the ensuing lap-33 restart. ... Apparent fifth and sixth place finishers Matt Henderson and Ross White tangled after the checkers and piled into the turn-one wall, tearing down a portion of the fence; White was disqualified for exiting his vehicle and physically striking Henderson while he was still strapped into his car. Henderson's car owner ran onto the track to confront White, disqualifying Henderson as well. ... Fresh off his $10,000 CRUSA Alabama State Championship victory on Sept. 24 at EAMS, Hayden Cardwell improved seven positions and completed the top five. ... Justin Smith gained eight spots and finished eighth, the first car one lap down. ... Saturday's non-points event was slowed by five incidents and lasted 29 minutes, with 13 drivers running at the finish.
On the move: Steve Peeden of Martinsville, Ind., started 18th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Hedgecock’s BMF Race Car is powered by an Eagle Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from E-Z-Go, STI Trucking, SFP Performance, W.E. Hardscapes & Masonry, Currin Construction, Noble Knights Construction Services, Vineyard Enterprises, Winters Performance and Quickcar Racing.
Points chase: After Lake Cumberland (non-points event): 1. Josh Dietz (1,880); 2. Jesse Lowe (1,868); 3. Zach Sise (1,745); 4. Sylvan Schuette (1,468); 5. Baillie Lowe (1,342).
