Randy Weaver heads to victory Sunday at East Alabama.
What won the race: Launching into the lead from outside the front row, Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., started 2015 off right with a flag-to-flag victory in East Alabama Motor Speedway's Bama Bash. Weaver pocketed $6,000 in purse money and another $2,500 in lap money in the 50-lap Southern All Star feature.
Quotable: “This place is fun to drive when they work that track like that,” Weaver said. “The grooves change multiple times and it's really fun.”
Key notes: Weaver has 27 career SAS victories. ... He built more than a six-second lead over polesitter Chris Madden before a lap-23 caution for a slowing Ryan Law. ... Runner-up Riley Hickman took second from Madden at halfway and chased Weaver the rest of the way, staying within striking distance. ... Dana Eiland spun on a lap-23 restart and Lavon Sparks drew a lap-40 caution. ... Time trials and heat races were contested Saturday. ... The 18th annual event was originally scheduled for Feb. 27-28 and was set to pay $15,000 to the winner, but was postponed and shuffled because of wet weather. ... Chase Edge earned $3,000 for the Crate Late Model victory.
On the move: In danger of being lapped before halfway, Todd Morrow of Chattanooga, Tenn., started 12th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Outlaw Racing Southeast Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett engine and sponsored by Stone Land Clearing and Excavating, Mission Transport, A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services and The Bailey Company.
