Bobby Pierce led the final five laps to secure his sixth full-field feature victory of the young season.
What won the race: Inheriting the point when race-long leader Cade Dillard flipped in the heavy turn-one cushion, second-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., led the final five laps to collect the $10,000 top prize in Saturday's fifth annual Ronny Adams Memorial at Boothill Speedway. Pierce nabbed his third career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory — his first since June 18, 2020, at Magnolia Motor Speedway — in his inaugural visit to Boothill that also marked his first career Late Model start in the state of Louisiana.
Quotable: “I hated to see that for (Cade) Dillard,” Pierce said. “I actually didn’t know what happened until I came around. I heard ‘red’ (over the Raceceiver) and I don’t know if he just missed the corner, got a little tight, or what. It was gonna be a pretty good battle, I feel like both of us were kinda slowing down a little bit, our tires were going away, and, with the battle in lapped traffic, it was getting really interesting.”
Key notes: The 40-lap feature was Pierce's sixth full-field feature triumph of the young 2024 season. ... Dillard, of Robeline, La., led the first 35 laps from the pole before his right-rear dug into the turn-one cushion, causing his car to take a soft tumble and land on its wheels. He was unhurt but couldn't continue, leaving him with an 18th-place finish. ... Fifth-starting Kyle Beard inherited the runner-up spot on the lap-35 restart and trailed Pierce for the final five circuits, finishing 1.751 seconds back. ... B.J. Robinson started and finished third. ... Grabbing fifth on lap 39, eighth-starting Ashton Winger rounded out the top five. ... Jon Mitchell improved 12 positions and finished sixth. ... Logan Martin exchanged fourth place with Beard in the early going before fading to finish seventh. ... Dillard's soft rollover brought out the third and final stoppage, necessitating a five-minute red flag for cleanup. ... Contact with Pierce sent Brad Couch spinning and nosing into the frontstrech wall to draw the race's second yellow on lap 22; Couch opted not to continue. ... The first caution was displayed on lap five when Bubba Mullins spun from eighth; he continued, only to spin again on the final lap and place 17th, the last car running at the finish. ... Saturday's feature lasted 24 minutes. ... The event honored Ronny Adams, a 14-time Boothill track champion who collected nearly 600 feature victories across his 51-year driving career before passing away on August 19, 2019, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
On the move: Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., started 16th and finished fourth.
