What won the race: Holding off a late-race charge from Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., polesitter Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala., led all 50 laps of Dixie Speedway's Southeastern Classic, collecting a $5,000 payday in his first victory of the 2015 season.
Quotable: "We qualified really good, and I think Ray (Cook) kind of got on us there a little bit," Hiett said. "We kinda just did some guarding there at the end, but even at that, with the cars that are here, we're just thrilled to death to start off like this."
Key notes: Hiett ended a limited 2014 season with seven victories. … The race was slowed by four cautions ... Third-starting Shane Clanton slowed with a flat tire on the seventh lap to draw the first yellow flag. ... Brian Reese spun for a caution on lap nine. ... A yellow flew for Todd Morrow on lap 24 when he slowed on the frontstretch. The final caution fell on the ensuing restart. ... Jerry Coffman of Chattanooga, Tenn., was the winner of the Steel Head Late Model feature. … Racing action will continue at Dixie Speedway on March 28 with a $3,000-to-win Crate Late Model event.
