What won the race: Pole-starting Christian Hanger of Winchester, Tenn., led all the way to win Friday's $5,000 Spring Smasher 40 at Moulton Speedway. Hanger hustled to collect his first career Coltman Farms Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature victory and his second overall triumph of the young season.
Quotable: “We’ve been trying to get one of these races for a long time, I don’t know what it is about (the Southern All Star) series, but I just can’t seem to win one,” Hanger said. “I’m glad tonight it finally worked out for us. God blessed us and let us lead all 40, (I) can’t be more thankful. It all came together finally for us and we gotta keep going.”
Key notes: Third-starting Camaron Marlar overcame an opening-lap incident and pursued Hanger for the final 26 laps, finishing 1.161 seconds back. ... Jadon Frame trailed Hanger for the opening 14 circuits before giving way to Marlar and rounding-out the podium. ... Oakley Johns rebounded to finish fourth after nearly getting swept up in the opening-lap melee. ... SAS points leader David McCoy completed the top-five finishers. ... Billy Franklin improved two positions and finished sixth. ... Cruz Skinner and Grayson Brewer each gained two spots, placing eighth and ninth. ... Friday's feature was slowed by three separate incidents, the largest being a multicar crash on the opening lap that involved Marlar, Johns, Richard Smith and Sam Norman, among others; all drivers were able to continue after a 10-minute red flag for cleanup. ... Ryan Wilson slowed with a flat right-rear to bring out the second caution on lap 27; he finished 14th after changing the tire. ... Cruz Skinner spun on a lap-28 restart attempt to draw the race's third and final stoppage. ... The Spring Smasher 40 feature lasted 28 minutes, with 17 drivers running at the finish.
On the move: Dalton Cook of Columbus, Ga., started 13th and finished 10th.
