Joseph Joiner takes the checkers after a dominating flag-to-flag victory at All-Tech.
What won the race: Denying Hall of Famer Scott Bloomquist’s bid to snap a long winless streak, Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., recorded a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night’s 50-lap Southbound Throwdown finale at All-Tech Raceway. The home-state racer kept Bloomquist at bay for the final 26 circuits to defeat the 60-year-old by 1.306 seconds for a $15,000 top prize in the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series event.
Quotable: “I just knew if I caught the lapped traffic wrong and they were on me and somebody was able to get a run it was gonna be all over,” Joiner said of leading on a locked-down track surface. “So I just did my best to leave a gap, and if somebody slipped out I did my best to kind of be there and fill the hole. All that worked out.”
Key notes: Joiner earned his first win of 2024 and the second of his career on the second-year HTF tour operated by his family. … Bloomquist shot from fourth to second on a lap-24 restart and drew close to Joiner several times but had to settle for second place on a rubbered track surface, keeping him without a victory since September 2020. … Second-starting Carson Ferguson, who won Friday’s $5,000 opener, ran second for the first 24 laps before finishing third. … Brandon Overton, who announced before the start of the weekend that he plans to chase the $50,000 HFT championship this season, advanced from eighth to finish fourth. … Chris Ferguson raced third behind his cousin Carson for the first 23 laps but slipped to fifth in the final rundown. … The race was slowed by caution flags on laps 24 and 45. … Slated to start on the pole of heat two, Mark Whitener was disqualified before taking the green after a crew member left the designated area in the infield.
On the move: Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., started 21st and finished 15th.
Winner's sponsors: Joiner’s Jay Dickens-powered Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Trading Paints, Base Racing Fuel, Dirt Track Bank, AFCO Racing Products, QA1, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld Headers, Wehrs Machine, Jones Racing Products, Earnhardt Technologies, MD3, Five Star Bodies, Gorsuch Performance, Bilstein Shocks, and ATC Bolts.
Points chase: After All-Tech Saturday: 1. Brandon Overton (282); 2. Chris Ferguson (264); 3. Cory Hedgecock (254); 4. Sam Seawright (248); 5. Joseph Joiner (244); 6. Trey Mills (242); 7. Carson Ferguson (240); 8. Josh Putnam (234); 9. Ashton Winger (220); 10. Zack Mitchell (204).
