Tanner English captured his fifth career Summer Nationals victory.
What won the race: Overcoming an onslaught of challenges from Ashton Winger, second-starting Tanner English of Benton, Ky., led the entire distance of Tuesday's 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals debut at Old No. 1 Speedway. English raced to the checkers 1.739 seconds ahead of father-in-law, Rodney Melvin, earning $10,000 and his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season.
Quotable: “It’s pretty cool, being the last time I was here, I flipped off the end (of the frontstretch) there and landed on my lid,” English said. “(This track) races totally different than the last time I was here. I hated to go for it there that one time when I got into (the slower car of) Mark Voigt, but I had to, ya know. Ashton (Winger) was coming .. if it wasn’t me going for it, he was fixin’ to.”
Key notes: It's English's fifth-career Hell Tour triumph and his first since topping a 33-car field for $10,000 on July 9, 2022, at Highland (Ill.) Speedway, moving him into a tie with his father, Terry English, on the all-time list. ... He won his first race with the Coltman Farms Racing team. ... English referred to the Old No. 1 track being like Windy Hollow Speedway, the D-shaped Owensboro, Ky., oval that hosted DIRTcar Summer Nationals races in 1993-95 under the name GLV Raceway. ... English also referred to his lap-34 run-in with Mark Voigt, contact that sent Voigt spinning to draw the race's second and final caution. Voigt continued to place 15th. ... The incident collected open-wheel standout Logan Seavey, who made his Late Model debut aboard a Chris Bragg-owned and Vinny Guliani-prepared Longhorn. Seavey worked his way up to third before looping it to avoid Voigt's spinning car and appeared to complete two full rotations before stopping, requiring a push to the infield. A broken steering rack ended his night. ... The third-starting Winger traded multiple sliders with English for the lead, the final time on lap 28, before fading to fourth after ripping his rear spoiler off for the second straight race. ... Ethan Dotson improved seven positions to finish third. ... The race's first stoppage came on lap 11 when pole-starting Chandler Petty slowed from eighth. ... Tuesday's 40-lapper lasted 21 minutes, with 17 drivers running at the checkers. ... It was the first Summer Nationals event held in the state of Arkansas.
On the move: Matt Cooper of McKenzie, Tenn., started 16th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: English’s Brett Coltman-owned Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Coltman Farms Racing, Autism Awareness, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett, ProFabrication, MPM Marketing, M&M Painting & Construction, C Motors, DirtCarLift.com, Boswell Oil, VP Racing Fuels, SRI Performance, Swift Springs and Bilstein Shocks.

Shane Stephens and Clay Stuckey completed the top-four finishers, punching their ticket into Tuesday night’s $10,000-to-win feature. … Third-starting Chandler Petty led the final five laps to win heat two after early leader Kyle Beard pulled off under caution on lap four. Fifth-starting Daniel Adam and ninth-starting Joey Chalmers will join Petty in the 40-lapper. The first caution flew when Charlie Cole had a solo spin from sixth. He rebounded to finish fourth, earning the race’s final transfer position. The second stoppage was a 10-minute red flag on the fourth lap when fourth-running Mark Voigt hit the turn-four wall and slowed suddenly, sending cars scrambling to avoid. Austin Vincent slammed into the back of Voigt, making contact with Thomas Hunziker and sending him spinning, before spinning back to the right and sitting broadside at turn-one entrance, leaving Colby Moore nowhere to go, as he slammed into the right side of Vincent’s machine. All drivers were unhurt, but could not continue. Only four competitors completed all eight laps. … Tanner English scored a flag-to-flag victory to win heat three by 1.302 seconds over third-starting Logan Seavey. Ethan Dotson finished third, with fifth-starting Tyler Clem grabbing the final transfer spot. The race’s lone caution came on the second circuit when Joey Smith spun from seventh. He continued to finish ninth. … Ashton Winger dominated the fourth and final heat race, winning over Dillon McCowan, Scott Crigler and Matt Cooper. The race was slowed by two yellows, the first when David Payne and Jon Mitchell tangled, ending Mitchell's race, with the second coming after a solo spin by Chance Mann.
