A lap-10 pileup required a 25-minute cleanup in the 50-lap feature.
What won the race: Regaining control when mid-race leader Daulton Wilson slowed with apparent engine failure, second-starting Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., led the final 23 laps to win Friday's $10,000 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series debut at Ultimate Motorsports Park. Seawright led a total of 37 laps (1-14, 28-50) en route to securing his first career series triumph and his second overall victory of the season — his first since topping Feb. 18's Winterfest at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn.
Quotable: “I hate that for Daulton (Wilson), ya know, he got by me there and I feel like we was as good as him, it was track position, I kinda got beat,” Seawright said. “My crew was down there telling me what to do, but I just wasn’t doing it hard enough. I finally got ‘er going there at the end. I was just giving it all I had every lap and it worked out.”
Key notes: The third-starting Wilson, of Fayetteville, N.C., led laps 15-27 until trailing heavy smoke and slowing to draw the race's sixth caution. He finished 15th. ... Benji Hicks held the runner-up spot until retiring with two laps remaining. ... Pole-starting Brandon Overton inherited second place as he came to take the white flag and finished 2.731 seconds behind Seawright. ... Reigning series champion Josh Putnam improved five positions and finished fourth. ... Fifth-place Jimmy Owens gained eight spots. ... Bo Slay started 28th and finished seventh. ... Ross Bailes ran the opening 42 laps in fourth place before bobbling on the lap-43 restart and slipping to finish eighth. ... Friday's tour debut at Ultimate was slowed by eight cautions, the largest coming on lap 10 and necessitating a 25-minute red flag for cleanup when Scott Bloomquist and Cla Knight tangled while battling for ninth; Bloomquist's car veered suddenly to the right and clipped Chris Ferguson, sending them into the frontstretch wall and collecting Ashton Winger, Jamison McBride, Zack Mitchell, Trey Mills and Jeff Smith, with McBride's car coming to rest on the hood of Mitchell's machine. All drivers were uninjured. Smith and Mills completed an additional lap before calling it a night. ... The feature lasted 55 minutes with 10 drivers completing the distance and 11 running at the finish. The checkered flag flew at 1:20 a.m. after rain caused a lengthy delay during time trials.
On the move: Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., started 25th and finished third.
