What won the race: Taking command when early leader Dave Mass lost his left-front wheel and spindle, fifth-starting Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., led the remainder of Saturday's 30-lap Dick Johhaneck King of Dirt at I-94 EMR Speedway. Peterson's $2,092 payday marks his second Northern LateModel Racing Association victory of the weekend and the seventh of this career.
Quotable: “It’s awesome, we’ve had the car for quite a while now to (win a King of Dirt event) and this has definitely been on my list,” Peterson said. “I’m super excited to get this win for my team. The race track was pretty good, it started latching up at the end, but these big-tire cars do that. I just had to get to the lead before it (took rubber) and we got lucky. I found the bottom on that restart and got by Don (Shaw) and it was smooth sailing from there.”
Key notes: Peterson also won Friday's $1,250 opener at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. ... The second-starting Mass, of East Bethel, Minn., led the opening handful of laps before drawing the race's third caution after his left-front wheel and hub broke loose. ... Track promoter Don Shaw led the field to the ensuing restart before giving way to Peterson and settling for third. ... Seventh-starting Dustin Strand overtook Shaw a few laps after Peterson, but could never mount a charge and finished a distant runner-up. Ironically, Strand and Peterson each claimed victory the previous night, as Strand topped May 17's rain-postponed race at River Cities. ... Pole-starting Brad Seng faded to sixth. ... Brody Troftgruben gained 10 spots in finsihing 10th. ... Five cautions slowed the feature.
On the move: Cole Schill of Hawley, Minn., started 17th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Peterson’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Corky Thomas Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Enclave, Quick-Lift by TP Fabricating, Northwest Auto Body, Fastenal, AllFab Railings & Metalworks, Powdercoat Specialists, Fox Racing Shox and Slider Shots Media.
