Bill Leighton Jr. celebrates his $3,000 Malvern Bank West Series victory at Off Road Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter Bill Leighton Jr. of La Vista, Neb., led flag-to-flag to win Saturday's 35-lap Malvern Bank West Series event at Off Road Speedway. He beat Chad Holladay by 1.944 seconds for the $3,000 top prize. Leighton won a series event at Off Road for the fourth time and first since 2017.
Key notes: Leighton’s triumph was his first of the season and the 21st of his career on the Joe Kosiski-promoted tour. … After nearly hitting the turn-three wall on the opening lap, Holladay trailed Leighton the entire way en route to his runner-up finish. … Hometown racer and series points leader Tad Pospisil started and finished third. … Sixth-starting Blair Nothdurft finished fourth after taking the spot on lap 21. … Dylan Sillman improved six positions and placed ninth. … The race’s lone caution flag flew on lap 24 when 10th-running Derrick Stewart slowed before requiring a push to the pits. He was the lone retiree of the 16-minute event. ... Sixteen drivers finished on the lead lap.
On the move: Chris Spieker of Massena, Iowa, started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Leighton’s Mark Wright Racing Rocket Chassis carries sponsorship from Barger Grading, Duros Dentworks, Taylor Quik Pik Shell, Collins Home Creations, Five Star Truck Center, Wright’s Feedyard, Sweet Treats by Lori, Full Field Ag, Madsen Wealth Management of Raymond James, MHM, VP Racing Fuels and Underdog Design & Drawing.
