Cole Searing in victory lane at KRA Speedway.
What won the race: Slipping by race-long leader Cory Crapser with six laps remaining, sixth-starting Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., raced to win Thursday's 40-lap WISSOTA Challenge Series main event at KRA Speedway. Searing crossed the finish line 0.862 of a second ahead of Crapser to pick up his third series victory of the season and a $3,000 payday.
Quotable: “Cory (Crapser) was really good, I could keep pace with him there. I tried to halfway throw a slider, see if I could get enough run to get (by) him, but I wanted to leave him plenty of room and I knew I wasn’t gonna clear,” Searing said. “He was good (on the outside) and I think we all kinda started getting tight up there, I’m not sure what happened. I ripped the spoiler off, like I said I was gonna do and here we are again.”
Key notes: It's Searing's fifth career series triumph. ... The second-starting Crapser, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., settled for runner-up after being denied his first career Late Model victory. ... Matt Gilbertson improved four positions and rounded out the podium finishers. ... The feature lasted 22 minutes, with 11 drivers completing the distance. ... The WISSOTA Challenge Series continues its quadrupleheader weekend with $3,000-to-win stops at Montevideo, Minn.'s Fiesta City Speedway (Friday and Saturday) before Sunday's finale at Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D. ... Thomas Weisgram scratched from the main event lineup.
On the move: Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., started 14th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Searing’s MB Customs Race Car has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from Collins Brothers Towing of St. Cloud, Minnesota Truck Headquarters, Conkey Farms, Central Plains Construction, Jerry Kleinsasser Farms, Binger Cattle and Grain, Allied Climate Professionals, Farmers Union Insurance, Glade Cattle Company, Avail Wealth Management, Speedwerx Headers and Jig E Signs.
