Tyler Erb wraps up his first Fairbury Speedway victory.
What won the race: Regaining control for good with a midrace move around Dennis Erb Jr., fourth-starting Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, led the remainder of Saturday's 50-lap, $10,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Fairbury Speedway. Erb led twice for 38 laps — including the final 23 — to earn his third straight series victory and the seventh of his career.
Quotable: “Really, as crazy as it sounds, I tried to be patient there the first five or 10 laps. You know, just the way Max (McLaughlin) and Cody (Overton) were kinda laying out, I had to get by one of them before I could even mess with the other,” Erb said. “Cody’s car was really good and I think I just got him flustered there on that (lap-11) restart, I got a good start and was able to get by him. I didn’t really feel like I was smooth sailing cause Dennis (Erb Jr.) was side-by-side with me there felt like for 20 laps.”
Key notes: Erb's triumph is the first of his career at Fairbury. ... Eighth-starting Shannon Babb trailed Erb the final 20 laps, pressuring occasionally before taking the checkers 1.771 seconds back. ... Third-starting Erb Jr., of Carpentersville, Ill., pressured Tyler Erb in the middle stages, leading laps 26 and 27 before slipping to fifth. ... Ryan Unzicker advanced six positions and took fourth. ... Cody Overton led the opening 10 laps from the pole before fading to an eighth-place result. ... Joseph Joiner spun from 22nd to bring out the race's first stoppage on lap 10. He completed only 27 more laps before pulling off. ... Dillon McCowan spun from 17th to draw the second yellow flag on lap 13. He completed 25 additional circuits before calling it a night. ... Jake Little slowed from 22nd to cause the third caution on lap 34. ... The race's fourth and final caution was for debris on lap 46. ... The 50-lapper lasted 25 minutes, with 17 drivers completing the distance.
On the move: Trevor Gundaker of St. Charles, Mo., started 15th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
