Dave Hess Jr. picked up $5,000 at Raceway 7.
What won the race: Overcoming multiple late-race restarts, second-starting Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., led all 40 laps to win Sunday's $5,000 September Shootout in unsanctioned Super Late Model action at Raceway 7. Hess, who led once by a 12-second margin, captured his second straight September Shootout victory and his fourth major event triumph of the season, boosting his total race winnings to more than $40,000.
Key notes: Pole-starting Max Blair regained the runner-up spot on lap 26 and trailed Hess the final 15 laps, finishing one second back. Hess enjoyed a near 13-second lead before the race's second caution erased his advantage on lap 34. ... A third and final stoppage slowed the racing action again on lap 35. ... Ken Schaltenbrand ran as high as second from laps 10-25 before giving way to Blair and eventually Darrell Bossard, settling for fourth. ... Kyle Lukon improved six positions and placed seventh. ... The 40-lapper was slowed by three cautions and lasted 22 minutes, with 16 starters completing the distance.
On the move: Chris Schneider of Lower Burrell, Pa., started 22nd and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Hess drives a Longhorn Chassis sponsored by Plyler Entry Systems, Johnson’s Car Care & Collision, Chew On This Jerky, Everhart Asphalt, Martin Dynamics, Hyperco, Close Racing Supply, Base Racing Fuel, Fast Shafts, AMSOIL, Genesis Racing Shocks, Spencer Motorsports and MWB Graphics.
