Spencer Hughes takes the checkers for his $12,000 victory.
What won the race: Inheriting the point when mid-race leader Ethan Dotson slowed after breaking a rear end, fourth-starting Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., led the final 12 laps to win Saturday's $12,000 Clash at the Mag, sweeping the two-day show at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Hughes grabbed his second Comp Cams Super Dirt Series win of the weekend and the fourth of his career.
Quotable: “I knew we wasn’t bad right there, I just wasn’t very good on the cushion,” Hughes said. “We really just needed some green flag laps, so once this (track) cleaned up, you could race all over it. It’s awesome seeing all these fans out here, I seen so many new t-shirts walking around too, I appreciate all y’all supporting us and glad finally able to come back here in front of a packed house and put on a good show.”
Key notes: Hughes earned a total of $17,000 on the weekend and secured his third win of the season at Magnolia after topping April's $3,000 MSCCS stop. ... Dotson, of Bakersfield, Calif., led laps 27-38 before appearing to break a rear end entering turn three, his ASD Motorsports machine grinding to a halt to bring out the sixth and final yellow flag. ... Fifth-starting Josh Putnam grabbed the runner-up spot on the lap-39 restart and trailed Hughes the rest of the way, finishing 1,286 seconds back. ... David Breazeale improved 10 spots and placed sixth. ... Second-starting Kaden Honeycutt led the opening 26 laps before giving way to Dotson and Hughes, eventually slipping to seventh. ... Payton Freeman slowed from fifth to draw the race's fifth caution on lap 33. ... Morgan Bagley (lap 17) and Kyle Beard (lap 25) each slowed to cause stoppages. ... Saturday's Clash at the Mag finale lasted 38 minutes, with 19 competitors completing the distance.
