Tyler Erb is unbeaten in four DIRTcar Summer Nationals starts.
What won the race: Grabbing the lead from race-long leader Kye Blight with an inside move exiting turn four, fourth-starting Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, led the final nine circuits of Tuesday's non-stop 30-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Davenport Speedway. The sizzling Erb earned $5,000 as he became the third driver to win the first four Summer Nationals events and the first since Billy Moyer captured 1994's opening six races.
Quotable: “(Kye Blight) just got into traffic and it was pretty hairy. You didn’t really want to go low (in turn one) cause you’d kinda get to bouncing,” Erb said. “I felt like I was pretty close to turning over once there once we got to (lapped) traffic. I figured at some point the bottom off of (turn) four would make some speed and I kept trying it. Kye, he’s gonna be really good .. he’s getting the hang of this.”
Key notes: Besides Moyer in 1994, Scott Bloomquist is the other driver to win the tour's first four events (1990) ... Erb has doubled his career victory total on the tour in 2024. ... The second-starting Blight, an Australian searching for his first stateside victory, led 21 of 30 laps after polesitter Daryn Klein hopped the turn-three cushion on the opening lap. Blight finished 1.897 seconds behind Erb while Klein dropped outside the top 10 and retired just past halfway. ... After sharing the seventh starting row with fellow Summer Nationals veteran Rodney Melvin, Billy Moyer improved to finish 10th while Melvin started and finished 13th. ... The caution-free main lasted eight minutes with 13 competitors completing 30 laps.
On the move: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., started 10th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
Points chase: Week 2 after Davenport: 1. Tyler Erb (80); 2. Kye Blight (75); 3. Garrett Smith (70); 4. Derrick Stewart (65); 5. Jason Feger (60). Overall after Davenport: 1. Tyler Erb (319); 2. Jason Feger (245); 3. Kye Blight (213); 4. Dillon McCowan (197); 5. Dennis Erb Jr. (189).
