Hunter Rasdon notched his first career MSCCS touring victory.
What won the race: Surviving a penalty for jumping an early start, polesitter Hunter Rasdon of Jonesboro, Ark., outran Neil Baggett of Shannon, Miss., for a $2,000 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series triumph at Whynot Motorsports Park, his first career series victory. Rasdon was moved back after jumping a start, but worked his way into the lead on the 20th lap and went on to win by a straightaway.
Key notes: Rasdon was just two-hundredths off the track record. ... The MSCCS event was a late addition to the schedule after two previous season openers were halted by weather at Columbus Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway the previous two weeks. ... Runner-up Neil Baggett was among last year's series winners at Whynot. ... Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, Miss., was the winner of the Crate Late Model feature. ... The event drew 97 race cars in six divisions with racing wrapping up at 10:45 p.m. on a chilly night.
On the move: Neil Baggett charged from the 16th starting spot to finish second; Chris Wall of Springfield, La., advanced from the 12th to fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Rasdon's Black Diamond Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Baker Welman Brown Insurance and Financial Services, Brown Bros. Farms, Baker Implement and Allstar Performance.
Points chase: The event marked the tour's season opener.
