What won the race: Denying Camaron Marlar's weekend sweep and keeping control thanks to a lap-13 caution, Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., led all 40 laps from the pole to win Saturday's fifth annual Tommy Lanham Memorial at Rockcastle Speedway. Making his Rockcastle debut, Dohm's $7,500 Ultimate Heart of America Series victory is the fifth of his career, moving him into a tie with Michael Chilton for the all-time lead.
Quotable: “We had hard tires on and I’m not the ‘hard tire guy’ so I was sweatin’ bullets,” Dohm said. “After about lap 10, I didn’t really feel the groove move out anymore and my brother was showing me somebody was on my ass and I seen it was Camaron (Marlar). Camaron’s my buddy, I probably took advantage of the fact that he’s my friend. Luckily there at the end, I think everybody’s tires was just so wore out, you really couldn’t do much. I felt like I was hangin’ on, but glad to come home with the win.”
Key notes: It's Dohm's first Ultimate HofA win of the season and his first since topping the 34th annual Butterball Wooldridge Memorial on Oct. 9, 2021, at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway. ... Fourth-starting Marlar, of Winfield, Tenn., pressured Dohm throughout and nearly took the lead before a lap-13 caution negated his move. Marlar, who won $5,000 the previous night at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Corbin, Ky., crossed the line 0.607 of a second behind Dohm. ... Seventh-starting Jason Jameson took third on lap 34 and completed the podium finishers. ... Series points leader Dustin Linville overcame a flat left-rear while running sixth, when he slowed to draw the race's sixth caution on lap 20. He rebounded to eighth after changing the tire. ... The seventh and final caution came on lap 35 when fourth-running Josh Henry slowed with a flat right-rear. He opted not to change it and was credited with 14th. ... Josh Rice had an uncharacteristic night as he never ran better than eighth before pulling off on lap 17. ... Daniel Shelton slowed and pulled off before taking the green. ... The 40-lap feature lasted 29 minutes, with 11 drivers completing the distance. ... Chad Stapleton scratched from the main event lineup.
On the move: Tyler Collins of North Vermon, Ind., started 17th and finished seventh.
