Bobby Pierce won his third straight WoO feature.
What won the race: Recovering from a poor start that saw him drop to fourth from the pole, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., took the lead from Ryan Gustin on the 21st of 40 laps Friday at Sharon Speedway to notch his third consecutive World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series victory and series-leading seventh of the season. Gustin's three-second lead just before halfway disappeared and Pierce blew past, dominating the rest of the way to take the checkers 1.776 seconds ahead of Cade Dillard with Gustin in third.
Quotable: "Right before that first caution came out, I felt my tires start digging," Pierce said. "I just tried to keep them warm under the yellow and they got back going again. The top (groove) finally formed a nice cushion up there, but it was a tricky, treacherous cushion to drive, especially in a dirty air. You didn't know where your front end was gonna go. We just had enough to hang on."
Key notes: Pierce, whose slow start allowed Ryan Gustin to grab the lead on the first lap entering turn one, has 25 career WoO victories. ... Pierce slipped back to fourth for the first four laps before turning things around. ... Pierce said his harder-tire choice required some time to get going while runner-up Cade Dillard ran strong late despite being on softer rubber. ... Third-finishing Ryan Gustin's streak of seven consecutive top-five finishes in his last seven starts overall marks his best stretch in more than 10 seasons. He led 20 laps, slipped to fourth from second on a lap-25 restart and regained third in the final 10 laps. ... Two cautions slowed the action. ... Sixth-running Max McLaughlin got into the turn-three wall and blew a right-rear tire on the 26th lap; he pitted for right-side tires. .... Eric Wilson and Dustin Walker tangled for a lap-three caution. ... Teen Brock Pinkerous, Hall of Famer Chub Frank, Bump Hedman, Levi Yetter and Andy Boozel were among non-qualifiers. ... Saturday's Battle at the Border finale pays $15,000-to-win.
On the move: Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., started ninth and finished fourth.
