Wyman’s bid to end a four-year victory slump on the Malvern Bank West Series, Bill Leighton Jr. of La Vista, Neb., grabbed the lead on lap 25 and marched on to win Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Huset’s Speedway. He used the outside lane to assume command and took the $5,053 first-place check by 1.223 seconds over Wyman, who led laps 2-24.

Quotable: “I actually went up there and tried it a little bit earlier and I didn’t think it was very good so I just went back down to the bottom,” Leighton said. “But I really wasn’t gaining anything, and we had that caution and I was like, Well, I gotta try something, because I wasn’t gonna beat ‘em on the bottom, and it stuck and I just kept rolling from there.”
