Sam Seawright grabbed a $5,000 Duck River victory.
What won the race: Recovering after getting into the turn-four wall and briefly losing the lead, outside front-row starter Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., captured Friday's Deep Fried 75 weekend opener on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. Seawright earned $5,000 in the 30-lapper over eighth-starting Ashton Winger, who nipped Brandon Overton for second at the line. Overton led lap 22 when Seawright stumbled, but the winner muscled back ahead to lead the final eight laps.
Quotable: "I've just always been good here ever since I was a little kid racing Crate cars. I don't know what it is," Seawright said. "But I really wanted to win that race bad. You know, me and Livie (Smith) got engaged. She's my fiancee now and my dad didn't get to come for a long time because he was so sick and he's back here with us and that kind of lit a fire under me to do good."
Key notes: Seawright notched his second Hunt the Front victory of the season; his first came May 3 at Ultimate Motorsports Park in Elkin, N.C. ... Besides his lap-22 miscue in turn four, Seawright also survived a lap-19 scrape with the slower car of Scott Cook on the backstretch. ... Runner-up Ashton Winger nipped Brandon Overton by 0.017 of a second with an inside move exiting turn four. ... Polesitter Wil Herrington led the first lap but settled for sixth after giving up the lead to Seawright. ... Two cautions slowed the action. ... Josh Henry slowed for a lap-eight caution (another yellow quickly appeared). ... Sixteen of 24 starters completed 30 laps. ... Rain delayed the night's program with the feature ending after midnight. ... Saturday's Deep Fried 75 finale pays $20,000-to-win.
On the move: Runner-up Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started eighth.
