Shane Clanton celebrates his $15,000 victory at Senoia.
What won the race: Using a turn-one slider to take control from early leader Sam Seawright, fourth-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., led the final 20 laps to win Sunday's rain-postponed Independence Shootout at Senoia Raceway. Clanton claimed the $15,000 payday, his second overall win of the season and his first on the fledgling Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.
Key notes: Sam Seawright led the opening 30 laps from the pole before giving way to Clanton and tangling with Josh Putnam on lap 36. Putnam grabbed second from Seawright on the lap-34 restart only for both drivers to tangle a couple laps later, the resulting contact sending both drivers to the back. They were relegated to 14th and 15th, respectively. ... Third-starting Ashton Winger took the runner-up spot from Joseph Joiner on lap 37 and trailed Clanton the final 14 laps, finishing 2.386 seconds back. Joiner settled for third. ... Points leader Brandon Overton improved 10 positions and placed fourth. ... Zack Mitchell sustained damage from multiple drivers and retired on lap 37, finished 20th in his debut for Coltman Farms Racing. ... Sunday's rain-postponed race was slowed by six cautions and lasted 39 minutes, with 17 drivers running at the finish. ... Saturday's sign-in had 42 entries, while only 23 returned to compete on Sunday.
On the move: Austin Horton of Whitesburg, Ga., started 17th and finished fifth; Dalton Cook of Columbus, Ga., started 19th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Clanton’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Super K Express, SCCS Solutions, Carolina Concrete Finishing, Freeman Plumbing, Go Lithium Battery, Gorsuch Performance Solutions, VP Racing Fuels, Twenty Five Designs and JRI Shocks from Earnest Performance.
