What won the race: Using a mid-race restart to power around early leader Clay Stuckey, eighth-starting Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., fended off late-race challenges from Hunter Lewis to win Saturday's 40-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series stop at Super Bee Speedway. Thrash earned $3,000 for his third MSCCS victory of the season and the 25th of his career.
Quotable: “The dumb driver fell out (of the seat) in qualifying and put us in a hole, so I had to work my way out of it,” said Thrash. "We gambled on right-rear tire (compound) and It paid off. It started going away there at the end and I knew Hunter (Lewis) was on a three (compound). That (late-race) caution saved us, really.”
Key notes: Thrash's other two series wins this season came March 29 at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Speedway and Aug. 3 at Greenville (Miss.) Speedway. ... Second-starting Clay Stuckey led the first half before choosing the bottom line and giving Thrash the preferred high line on a mid-race restart; Stuckey had staved off Thrash using the high line up until then. Stuckey slipped to third in the final rundown. ... Third-starting Hunter Lewis grabbed the runner-up spot after a late-race caution and challenged Thrash for the last handful of laps, finishing 0.290 of a second back at the line. ... Points leader Brian Rickman prevailed after battling Jarret Stuckey and Keith Hammett for fourth for much of the race; Hammett and Stuckey faded to finish seventh and eighth, respectively. ... Pole-starting Tanner Kellick challenged alongside Clay Stuckey in the opening laps before sliding back to fifth and slowing to cause the third stoppage. He did not continue. ... Kyle Cummings scratched after hot laps.
On the move: Race winner Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., started eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Thrash's Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Miller Lite, Jackson Industries, Thrash Pest Control, X-Treme Graphics by J-Rod, Hoosier Tire and Penske Racing Shocks.
