What won the race: Powering around the outside of race-long leader Dale McDowell on lap 40, seventh-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield,, Tenn., led the rest of Thursday's 50-lap Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway. Marlar sped to the $10,000 victory by 2.281 seconds over the pole-starting McDowell, grabbing his sixth overall triumph and boosting his race winnings to more than $50,000 on the season.
Quotable: "Man, I was more excited to pass Dale than I was to win the race," Marlar said. "Like everybody here is like, 'Oh, we're racing for second tonight.' And I'm like, 'Man, I'm seeing him and I was like, 'I'm fixing to pass Dale McDowell. Let's get it on.' "
Key notes: Camaron Marlar won his first-ever Volunteer feature. ... Dale McDowell entered chasing his third win of the season at the Bulls Gap, Tenn., high banks after winning June's $50,050 Volunteer 50 and July's $7,553 Schaeffer's Southern Nationals stop. ... Michael Brown trailed McDowell for the opening 13 laps before giving way to Donald McIntosh and Camaron Marlar before eventually reclaiming third on lap 29. ... The sixth-starting McIntosh pursued McDowell from laps 14-35 before slipping to fourth during Marlar's fourth-to-second move on lap 36. ... Brandon Overton ran as high as third near the halfway mark before fading to fifth. ... Pierce McCarter improved five positions, placing ninth. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the first coming on lap 14 when Jordon Horton slowed from 14th. He continued until retiring on lap 23. ... Volunteer's annual Scorcher also honored Scott Bloomquist, the late Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer who hailed from nearby Mooresburg, Tenn. ... The 50-lapper lasted 17 minutes, with 14 starters completing the distance and 17 running at the finish.
