Russell Erwin earned a $10,000 victory and the Bandits tour title.
What won the race: Reclaiming control as Ethan Wilson hopped the turn-three cushion, fourth-starting Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, Va., led the final 50 laps unchallenged to win Saturday's $10,000 Cash Money 100, clinching his second career Vision Wheel Steel Block Bandits Dirt Late Model Challenge Series championship (2021). Erwin led twice for 67 laps (8-24, 51-100) for his sixth-career Bandits win and his fourth of the season, his first since June 1 at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va.
Quotable: “We ended with more wins than he did,” Erwin said, speaking of his season-long battle with Tyler Bare. “Either way, we did what we needed to do, we got the job done. Tyler is a good young kid, won’t be long before he starts getting some of these (championships).”
Key notes: Second-starting Dustin Mitchell led seven laps before hopping the turn-three cushion as well, nearly hitting the wall and allowing Erwin to take command. ... Mitchell, who had been feeling ill all week, retired while running fourth under the race's first caution on lap 14. ... Home-track racer Ethan Wilson led laps 25-50 before allowing Erwin to get back by and then slowing from second to draw the race's fourth caution on lap 54. Wilson pitted and recovered to run as high as 12th before slowing again on lap 81 with a flat left-rear tire, bringing out the seventh and final stoppage. He retired on lap 95. ... Entering with a slim two-point advantage in series points, seventh-starting Tyler Bare took second on the lap-81 restart and finished a distant 5.654 seconds back. ... Erwin and Bare finished tied in the 2024 standings, but the tiebreaker went to Erwin with four victories to Bare's one. ... Banjo Duke advanced nine spots and finished seventh. ... After slowing from 10th for the fifth stoppage on a lap-54 restart attempt, Caleb Fulp was 11th, the last driver on the lead lap. ... Willie Milliken pulled off from 13th under the lap-54 caution for Wilson after also slowing on lap 31 to draw the second yellow flag. The lap-31 stoppage ended up being a 15-minute red flag that included an on-track fuel stop. ... Timmy Blackwell slowed to bring out the first caution on lap 14. ... The feature lasted just shy of 70 minutes.
On the move: Michael Batten of Elm City, N.C., started 19th and finished sixth.
