Tyler Erb (1) outduels Ashton Winger (12) after a back-and-forth battle.
What won the race: Exchanging the lead five times over the final 23 laps, fourth-starting Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, made his final move around the outside of Ashton Winger on lap 57 to capture Saturday's 30th annual Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot Motorsports Park. Erb led three times for 21 laps (38, 40-55, 57-60) and beat Winger to the line by 0.888 of a second for a $20,000 payday.
Quotable: “I tried not to get too crazy too quick. I hated when Ashton (Winger) got by early, cause I was just like ‘Here we go again,’ ” Erb said. “I ran the bottom of (turns) one and two really, really hard and kinda told myself ‘I can do it, I’m just gonna blow the deck out’ and obviously I did … we caught lapped traffic there and thankfully they were on the bottom cause it just made it a little easier on me ... we raced super, super hard and really clean. It’s fun, that’s all you can ask for.”
Key notes: Erb, fresh off Oct. 5's $10,000 Gumbo Nationals victory at Greenville (Miss.) Speedway, captured his 18th overall triumph of the season. ... Sticking primarily to the bottom, sixth-starting Ashton Winger led three times for 30 laps (10-37, 39, 56) before getting held up by a lapped car in the late going, clipping an infield tractor tire with his left-front nosepiece and fading back at the checkers. ... Mike Marlar led the opening lap before settling for third. ... Pole-starting Dennis Erb Jr. led laps 2-9 before slipping to fourth. ... There were seven lead changes among the four leaders. ... The Overton brothers, Cody and Brandon, each improved five positions to finish sixth and seventh. ... After slowing to draw the race's fourth and final caution on lap 38, Trey Mills rebounded to 11th. ... Zack Mitchell challenged inside the top five early before fading to 12th. ... Matt Tifft spun on a lap-34 restart attempt to cause the third stoppage. He continued and placed 16th, the first finisher one lap down. ... Shane Clanton pitted from 17th under the lap-38 caution for Mills and completed just a couple more laps before puling off. ... Brian Rickman slowed from 18th to trigger the second yellow flag on lap 34. ... Jadon Frame slowed from 17th and pulled off for the race's first slowdown on lap 10. ... The main event lasted 30 minutes, with 15 starters completing 60 laps and 17 running at the finish.
On the move: Blaze Burwell of Mount Vernon, Ill., started 22nd and finished eighth.
