Brad Seng tunes up at Viking before his season-opening NLRA win.
What won the race: Reigning series champ Brad Seng of Grand Forks, N.D., became the winningest driver in NLRA history in Viking Speedway's 2015 series opener, overtaking race-long leader Cody Skytland of Fargo, N.D., on the 15th lap and leading the remainder of the 25-lapper. Seng's 27th NLRA victory broke a tie with the late John Seitz, a four-time series champ.
Key notes: Seng had a series-leading six victories last season. ... Third-finishing Ricky Weiss improved two positions over the final three laps. ... Cautions on laps eight, 17 and 22 slowed the action. ... Sixteen of 24 starters were running at the finish. ... NLRA launched its 18th season with the first half of a Memorial Day weekend doubleheader at Viking. ... The event's sponsors: Integrity Title, Apol's Harley-Davidson Alexandria and Cashwise Liquor. ... Drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Dusty Peterson, Rich Schroeder, Chris Winter, Greg Meyer, Robert Bladow and Scott Lehn.
On the move: Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., started 14th and finished seventh; Jeff Hapala of West Fargo, N.D., started 24th and finished 15th for hard charger honors.
Winner's sponsors: Seng's MB Customs Race Car is sponsored by Fargo Freightliner, S&S Transport, Bergstrom Electric, Signature Warehousing, Anderson Brothers Body Shop, Broken Drum, Mars Race Cars, MV Collette Farms and Valley Oral and Facial Surgery.
Points chase: The weekend doubleheader opens both the NLRA and Viking's season.
