What won the race: Third-starting Tony Toste of Pismo Beach, Calif. broke out to the early lead and never looked back en route to a $2,000 victory to open the two-day Nationals at Santa Maria Speedway.
Key notes: Steve Drake and Justin Rich tangled on lap eighth for the first caution. ... A 10-car pileup in turn four on the ensuing restart drew a red flag; all drivers were reported to be unharmed. ... Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas, Calif., suffered a broken suspension and flat tire while running second on lap 16. ... Action continues Sunday at Santa Maria with a $3,000-to-win program.
