Dirt Late Model racing's top drivers will square off in search of another crown jewel this weekend at K-C Raceway near Chillicothe, Ohio. The 28th annual Dirt Track World Championship on Oct. 17-18 offers a purse of more than $200,000 with $50,000 going to the winner of the 100-lap feature event at the 3/8-mile oval.

K-C Raceway will be hosting the DTWC for the fourth time with Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn. (2005), Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill. (2006) and Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa. (2007) grabbing victories in the lucrative event. Frank edged runner-up Josh Richards in a dramatic side-by-side duel midway through last year's event to earn his first DTWC victory.

Modifieds open the action on Oct. 16 while Late Models are scheduled for Oct. 17 with hot laps, time trials and heat races. On Oct. 18, Late Model consolations will be followed by the modified feature then the 100-lap Late Model main event. For more details check out the race website. — From staff reports

ANOTHER BIGGIE IN MISSISSIPPI: Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., hosts the fifth annual Cotton Pickin' 100 on Oct. 17-18 with Super Late Models battling for a $15,000 winner's purse. Last year's winner Jason Cliburn of Star, Miss., Hall of Famer Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., and Magnolia State 100 winner Chris Wall of Holden, La., are among drivers expected for the unsanctioned event, which is sponsored by Coors Light, the Columbus Visitors Bureau and the Columbus Packet. Practice is set for Oct. 16 with hot laps, time trials and heat races set for Oct. 17. The Oct. 18 action includes consolation races and features. Besides the Super Late Models, a $2,000-to-win event for Late Model Stock and Crate Late Models is also on tap. — Ben Shelton

OLD-TIMERS SPICE UP AAPTS FINALE: The Oct. 18 season finale on the Advanced Auto Parts Thunder Series at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, Tenn., the Buddy Rogers Memorial 44, will include an East Tennessee Legends Race that will include many contemporary racers of Rogers, who died last month. Among old-timers expected are H.E. Vineyard, Herman Goddard, Zeke Buchanan, Leroy Vann, Bill Ogle and Bill Reed. The AAPTS event will pay $4,400 to the winner, thanks to extra sponsorship from BKW Disaster Recovery and Rebuilding. BKW sponsors series points leader Rick Rogers, the son of Buddy Rogers. His father's late race car will be on display at the event. — Brad Byrd

MIRACLE SELLS IRS TOUR TO GUY WEBB: After two seasons, Independent Racing Series founder Dean Miracle has sold the organization to Guy Webb, president of the O'Reilly Allstar Circuit of Champions sprint car tour. Webb plans to revamp the Late Model tour and rename it the O'Reilly Allstar Late Model Series. Miracle, who watched Ohio's Rick Aukland and Pennsylvania's Robbie Blair win championships with IRS, plans to promote Waynesfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park in 2009. “My health just won’t allow me to travel up and down the road like I used to,” said Miracle, thanking those who supported the tour. “The Allstars will go on under Guy and I know he will try to keep it one of the best tours around, if not better." — Chris Tilley

I-55 RACEWAY HOSTING EIGHT-DIVISION, FOUR-DAY ROUNDUP: The inaugural UMP DIRTcar Roundup By MyRaceLife.com kicks off Oct. 15 and runs through Oct. 18 at NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader’s I-55 Raceway just south of St. Louis, Mo. Eight UMP DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned divisions will participate in the blockbuster program, including the Super Late Model division that runs at I-55 on Saturdays. The Late Model program includes preliminary features on Thursday and Friday that will send drivers into the $5,000-to-win main event on Saturday night. Notable Late Model pre-entries include track champion Billy Faust of Highland, Ill., Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., Jason Feger of Bloomington,Ill., Michael Kloos of Trenton, Ill., Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., Bryan Collins of Elsberry, Mo., and Denny Woodworth of Mendon, Ill. In addition, NASCAR veteran Kenny Wallace is scheduled to drive a dirt Late Model fielded by Ed Petroff in the Roundup. — Kevin Kovac

VOLUSIA ADDS DECEMBER SPECIAL: The 2008 racing season will extend into December at the inaugural Convention Holiday Classic Dec. 11-13 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. While the motorsports world invades the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando for the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show, the nights will heat up less than an hour away at the half-mile oval. The track's Late Model division will battle in a $3,000-to-win event on Dec. 12. — Kevin Kovac

GREVEN RESIGNS AS GENERAL MANAGER AT WHEATLAND: Randy Bowman has been promoted as general track manager of Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., after Kevin Greven's Oct. 10 resignation to purse another job. "This will be a very smooth transition," said Greven, who didn't want to reveal his new job. "Randy and I have basically been a management team from Day One." Bowman will take over at the state-of-the-art dirt track that hosts the $40,000-to-win Diamond Nationals for Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Late Models. "I have known Kevin since our O'Reilly Auto Parts days," Bowman said. "His input and motivation will definitely be missed. However, right now I am focused on the future. We have an end of the season driver's banquet to wrap up and the finishing touches to place on the 2009 schedule." — From track reports

ODDS AND ENDS: A Bedford County (Tenn.) grand jury on Oct. 20 will hear assault charges against an auto racer and his brother stemming from an incident at Duck River Speedway. Marvin Bobby Parker faces five counts of aggravated assault and a count of misdemeanor assault. Mike Parker faces a count of aggravated assault. ... Volusia Speedway Park's website has opened sales for tickets to the 38th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals set for Feb. 3-14 at the Barberville, Fla., track. The 12 nights feature sprint cars, modifieds, big-block modifieds and Late Models, including events sanctioned by the World of Outlaws. The six-night Dirt Late Model ticket package is $175.
