Donald McIntosh gets rolling at Boyd's in a Lamar Scoggins entry.
What won the race: Winning in only his second start of the season, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., stormed to a Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series victory in Friday’s Stars and Stripes 40 at Boyd’s Speedway. He assumed command on the 15th lap and never looked back driving a Lamar Scoggins-owned car to a $5,000 triumph.
Quotable: "I was really surprised Seawright gave that option to me (to start on the outside of the second row on lap 14)," McIntosh said. "But when he did, I was so excited, because I knew that he was going to try to protect the bottom, because that's where we'd been running. And I figured I’d Hail Mary it. And if the Hail Mary worked, good, and if it didn't, I felt like I could still drop in behind Sam.”
Key notes: McIntosh has been largely inactive this season after losing his ride with Blount Motorsports, which was shut down by owner Larry Garner after the 2021 campaign. ... Runner-up Vic Hill registered a season-best finish in his self-owned Longhorn car after leading laps 1-14. ... Mack McCarter finished third after overtaking Sam Seawright on lap 38. ... The Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series made its third of five scheduled trips to Boyd's in 2022. ... The Iron-Man weekend continues Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Ky., and Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway on Sunday. ... The Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series has posted $1,500 in bonus money for best performers among drivers who compete in July 1-3 events. The three-race points fund pays $500 for first, $400 for second, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $100 for fifth.
On the move: Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., started 20th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: McIntosh's Lamar Scoggins-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a RaceTek engine and sponsored by Taylor Sheet Metal, Team Auto Inc and Wild Side Trailers, M&S Motors and Also Brooks Construction.
