Jonathan Davenport added $5,000 to his cofers Friday at Batesville.

What won the race: Continuing his winning ways, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., led all 30 laps to win Friday’s Topless 100 preliminary feature for a $5,000 payday and the pole position for Saturday's $50,000-to-win finale. Davenport, still searching for his first career Topless 100 victory, finished 0.718 of a second ahead of fellow front-row starter Spencer Hughes. Three-time Topless 100 winner Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., finished third in a race slowed by a single caution.

Quotable: “It was a very good view from where I was sitting at tonight,” Davenport said. “Who knows if it is going to be a tire game tomorrow night (in the 100-lap finale). This race kind of surprised us last year with how slick it got. We will have to conserve a little bit tomorrow night. Tonight I just backed the pace way, way up.”

Key notes: Davenport recorded his fifth Lucas Oil Series win of 2022 and the 63rd of his career. ... Runner-up Spencer Hughes registered a season- and career-best finish on the Lucas Oil Series. ...
