Wil Herrington (19) keeps Josh Putnam (212) in the rearview for Saturday's $10,000 payday.
What won the race: Polesitter Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., executed a daring slide job to regain the lead on a lap-nine restart and led the final 42 laps at Cochran Motor Speedway, winning Saturday's $10,000 Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series feature. Herrington led twice for 44 laps (1-2; 9-50) to secure his second victory of the season and the first of his career with the first-year Hunt The Front Series, further extending his points lead.
Quotable: “Yeah we come home and run a Crate (Late Model) race earlier this year and we got our butt handed to us,” Herrington said. “Not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but I finally won in every class at Cochran Motor Speedway now. I appreciate all y’all fans for supporting me for all these years and got a win on (crewman) Tony (Floyd’s) birthday; we won on his birthday before, but we got some news we didn’t need, I’m just glad we could get a win for him.”
Key notes: Herrington's team changed a flat right rear tire in victory lane after exhausting all of the tread throughout the 50-lap feature. ... Fourth-starting Josh Putnam led laps three through eight before being overtaken by Herrington and trailed the rest of the way, finishing 2.865 seconds back. ... Fifth-starting Dalton Cook faded as far back as 10th before climbing into third on lap 33 and rounded-out the podium. ... Joseph Joiner overcame a lap-18 unforced error that moved him back to 12th, then marched to finish fourth. ... John Henderson advanced 10 positions and finished fifth. ... Ryan Crane gained six spots and finished sixth. ... Jason Croft started 16th and finished 10th. ... Saturday's main event was truly a race of attrition, with several drivers failing to complete the full distance; Pearson Lee Williams, Payton Freeman, Ashton Winger and Michael Page all ran inside the top-five at one point before retiring early for various reasons. ... Garrett Smith drew the race's fifth caution when he spun on lap 18; Smith proceeded to contest his position under yellow and was disqualified when he failed to follow directions from Hunt The Front Series officials, including detrimental actions by members of his crew located in the infield. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by 16 separate incidents and lasted over 82 minutes, with 12 drivers completing all 50 laps.
On the move: Joseph Brown of Columbus, Ga., started 22nd and finished ninth.
