Devin Moran (99) and Tim McCreadie (1) battle for the early lead.
What won the race: Winning an early back-and-forth battle with polesitter Tim McCreadie, Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, grabbed the point for good on the 14th lap and dominated the rest of Thursday's Slocum 50 at 34 Raceway for his second straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory and fourth of the season. Hudson O'Neal, in his first start since this week's return to the SSI Motorsports ride formerly occupied by series points leader Ricky Thornton Jr., finished 2.547 seconds behind Moran at the checkers of the caution-free event, with Daulton Wilson close behind in third. Thornton finished fourth after starting in the seventh row.
Quotable: "We're right on track. I feel like we've really hit our stride here the last couple of weeks. I think that's eight or nine podiums in a row, you know," Moran said. "That's just a testimony to how great my crew guys are and how great my car owner and this whole team is for sure."
Key notes: Moran, who earned $15,555, notched his 12th career full-field Lucas Oil Series victory. ... En route to victory lane, Moran drove a reverse lap down the frontstretch extending his left hand to represent the No. 5 formerly driven by race honoree Brent Slocum; the event annually pays tribute to the 28-year-old track champion who died in a pit accident there in 2005. ... The week's big newsmakers ran well with Hudson O'Neal second in his return to the SSI Motorsports car and series points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. finishing fourth in his Koehler Motorsports debut. ... Third-finishing Daulton Wilson got his best series finish since Memorial Day weekend's Show-Me 100. ... Polesitter Tim McCreadie led twice for five laps (1, 10-13) before slipping back to finish sixth as he continues to look for his first victory in the Rocket Chassis house car. McCreadie's lap-10 pass came in an aggressive crossover move as he dove under Moran in turn one. ... The 50-lapper lasted just 14 minutes, with 10 drivers completing the distance and 18 running at the finish.
On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., in his debut with Koehler Motorsports, started 13th and finished fourth.
