Zack Mitchell waves the checkers in Thunderhill's victory lane.
What won the race: Whipping around race-long leader Camaron Marlar exiting turn four on the 22nd lap, eight-starting Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap Mark Fields Memorial to earn $15,000 and his second Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory of the season. Mitchell took the Thunderhill Raceway Park checkers a half-second ahead of 10th-starting Ashton Winger for his first victory since joining the Coltman Farms Racing team.
Quotable: "We fired off there at the first of the race and I knew I had a pretty good car — I didn't know it was going to be that good," Mitchell said, thanking his sponsors. "I kind of started picking them off and, man, this thing, it was on a rail. ... this thing was honor to drive tonight."
Key notes: Mitchell's first HTF victory came June 22 at Cherokee Speedway. ... Polesitter Camaron Marlar, trying to win his second race in three nights, led the first 21 laps. ... Brandon Overton started in the 10th row after a flat tire prevented him from time-trialing; he was frustrated officials didn't allow give him time to change the tire and qualify. ... Six cautions slowed the 50-lap feature, including one for second-running Sam Seawright's departure on a lap-13 restart. ... Leader Camaron Marlar clipped Josh Henry in turn four on the 13th lap, sending Henry around as he tried to head for the infield. ... Payton Freeman and Trey Mills tangled on the 17th lap (Mills was sent off the track by series officials for retaliating). Donald McIntosh was caught up in the mess. ... On the lap-17 restart, third-running Stormy Scott spun in turn two. ... Freeman spun on the 35th lap after contact with Josh Putnam. ... The two-day event honored the late Lawrenceburg, Tenn., racer who died on Oct. 18, 2021, at the age of 43 after being shot following a confrontation with a neighbor. … Freeman led all 30 laps to win Friday’s $5,000 opener, securing his first career Hunt the Front Series victory.
On the move: Series points leader Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., started 20th and finished third.
