Justin Kay emerges from his winning car at Cresco Speedway.
What won the race: Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, held off a last-lap charge from Tyler Bruening of Decorah, Iowa, to score his second Hoker Trucking Series victory of the season at Cresco Speedway. After starting fifth, Kay took the lead from Andy Eckrich of Oxford, Iowa, on lap 13, leading the remaining 18 circuits to earn a $3,000 payday in the Mighty Howard County Fair Race.
Quotable: "Actually the lapped traffic's what got me into the lead. We had that yellow and Andy (Eckrich) had no idea I was on the inside of the lapped car and he rolled by the outside. Lapped traffic was helping and hurting," Kay said. "The track turned out really great. I wasn't sure what to expect with the new dirt they put on and not racing here very much, but the track, you could move around a little bit. And awesome crowd they had here. That's most people I've seen at a race like this in a while. It's awesome to have that."
Key notes: Kay earned his fifth career Hoker Trucking Series victory, tying Tad Popisil of Norfolk, Neb., atop the series all-time win list. ... Fast qualifier Tyler Bruening finished 0.280 seconds behind Kay after starting in 15th. ... The Decorah, Iowa, driver suffered a flat tire while leading the first heat race. ... Polesitter Curt Martin of Independence, Iowa, brought out the caution on lap 13 while running third; he finished 24th.
