Adam Yarbrough won at Sumter for his first Ultimate Southeast victory.
What won the race: Leading all the way, second-starting Adam Yarbrough of Denver, N.C., faced little challenge in capturing Saturday's 40-lap Summer Showdown at Sumter Speedway for a $5,000 payday and his first career Ultimate Southeast Series victory.
Quotable: “Every time I come here, I run good,” Yarbrough said. “I won the Ed Gibbons (Memorial) race last year. This place has really been good to me, it’s been the best and I have a lot of people that help me.”
Key notes: Yarbrough finally broke through for an Ultimate Southeast victory in his 36th career start with the series and just his second this season. His previous career-best finish was a third on June 10, 2023, also at Sumter. … Fourth-starter Banjo Duke, who won Ultimate Southeast’s first visit to Sumter in 2021, slid into second place past Steve Banal on a lap-29 restart and finished there, 0.414 of a second behind Yarbrough. … Gray Parton finished third after also overtaking Banal on lap 29 while fourth went to Banal, who started on the pole but ran third for the first 17 circuits and second for laps 18-28. … The feature was slowed by three cautions: the first two for Travis Stoner spins and the third for Lance Brasington slowing from 10th before pulling off. … The race lasted 20 minutes with 14 cars running at the finish. … Gavin Cowan of Rincon, Ga., finished sixth in his debut piloting Joey Coulter's No. 2 Rum Runner Racing Longhorn entry. ... The event marked the tour’s fifth-ever visit to Sumter.
On the move: Brian Ridgeway of Sumter, S.C., started 13th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Yarbrough’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Yarbrough Automotive & Truck Service, KAT Industries, Inc., Judy Yarbrough Realty, H&H Auto Sales, Knox Grading, Horne Corp., Bailes Construction, ML Performance, Simpson Dock Worx, Bilstein Shocks and Big A’s Custom Graphics, with a special thanks to Joey Moriarty.
