Feature winner Jason Feger takes the checkers at Lincoln.
What won the race: Using a dazzling high-side restart to go from third to first, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., grabbed the lead on the eighth lap Sunday at Lincoln Speedway and raced to his third consecutive DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at the quarter-mile oval. Feger went around Kye Blight on the early restart, then fought off repeated challenges from red-hot Tyler Erb to earn $7,500 and his first series victory of 2024. Six-time race winner Erb settled for a close second with Ryan Unzicker in third.
Quotable: "I mean, obviously Terbo has been on a roll, but I at least want to bring our A-game and give us a shot," Feger said. "We've been inching closer. So it feels good to finally have the car feeling like I feel like it should."
Key notes: Feger also clinched the $10,000 weekly points title with the victory and ended Tyler Erb's two-race win streak. ... Feger owns 27 career Summer Nationals victories, tied with Brandon Sheppard for seventh on the all-time list. ... The second of two cautions appeared when Garrett Smith and Kayden Clatt exited on the frontstretch with four laps remaining. ... The first caution appeared on the eighth lap for Max McLaughlin's first-turn spin after contact from Billy Moyer. ... Tyler Erb used a slide job to get ahead of polesitter Kye Blight just before the first caution, but Blight quickly crossed under him and never officially lost the lead. ... Blight led the first seven laps. ... Erb's 13.169-second lap lowered the 15-year-old record of Dennis Erb Jr. (13.219 seconds set at a Summer Nationals race won by Randy Korte). ... Jon Kirby scratched for the night after nearly losing control early in the second heat.
On the move: Jake Little of Springfield, Ill., started 13th and finished fourth.
