What won the race: Pole-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led all 35 laps unchallenged to win Friday's Freedom & Fireworks feature at Thunder Mountain Speedway, notching his first career Ultimate Heart of America Series victory. Marlar cruised to claim the $5,000 payday by 2.120 seconds over Dustin Linville.
Quotable: “It was fun, the track was actually really good. Like I know we all ran around the bottom, but that top down here (in turn one) was really fun,” Marlar said. “Hats off to (track owner) Dennis (Barton) and everybody here, I’m glad he’s had a good turnout. Good race, good series, just a good night. I gotta give a big thanks to Kenny Young. I needed a motor and I got a motor from him this week, this is what we ran.”
Key notes: Second-starting Linville, of Bryantsville, Ky., won two lucrative 604 Crate races last year at Thunder Mountain, earning more than $6,500. His runner-up finish vaults him into the series points lead. ... Chase Oliver trailed Marlar between laps 4-18 before Linville reclaimed the runner-up spot, relegating Oliver to finish third. ... The race was slowed by two cautions, the first involving a lap-two tangle between Chris Johnson and Jody Adkins. Both drivers continued to place eighth and 10th, respectively. ... Tyler Collins slowed from sixth on lap 19 to cause the final stoppage and was unable to continue. ... Thunder Mountain's inaugural Super Late Model event lasted 14 minutes, with six competitors completing the distance and 10 running at the finish. ... Tegan Evans scratched from the 35-lap feature after sustaining heavy damage in her heat race.
On the move: Daniel Shelton of Richmond, Ky., started 11th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Rick Curl-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Curl Properties, Marlar Auto Mart, Mac Metal Sales & Trusses, Wayne Bowen, Platinum Designs, XS Power and Bilstein Shocks.
Points chase: After Thunder Mountain: 1. Dustin Linville (65); T2. Larry Martin Jr. (59); T2. Cyle Forgy (59); T4. Chad Stapleton (58); T4. Tyler Collins (58); 6. Derrick Meadors (43).
